$CNP (CenterPoint Energy) -- the regulated utility that owns Houston's poles & wires -- just announced $5B in savings for Texas ratepayers driven by data center load growth connecting to their grid via ERCOT Batch Zero. Here's the math: >14 GW of data center/AI projects have applied to connect to CNP's grid via ERCOT Batch Zero >$5B ÷ 10 years = ~$500M/yr in avoided costs >$500M >2.69M residential meters out of 3.02M total electric meters >Residential portion of savings: ~$175–250M/yr >$65–95/household/year, or roughly $5–8/month off the average delivery charge The mechanism: data centers pay demand charges to CNP that absorb fixed infrastructure costs currently socialized across all ratepayers. More large load connecting = smaller per-unit cost for everyone else. Worth noting: CNP r
