Level of ignorance about $META surprises me every day. $META trial in California isn’t a $1 trillion threat. That’s the statutory maximum $META calculated to show how ridiculous those lawsuits can get. States are asking $200 billion. Historically, when US courts face such high maximum asks that could threaten the functioning of the economy and the entire business landscape, they tend to award damages up to only 2% of the statutory limits or 20% of the damages asked, whichever is higher. Look at the settlement in the writers’ lawsuit against Anthropic and New Mexico vs. Meta and you’ll see this rule of thumb. Stop confusing people by spreading misleading headlines.
