Most people will read Western Digital as a NAND recovery story. We won’t. The higher signal is whether nearline HDD has become an AI infrastructure constraint. Last quarter: • 222 exabytes shipped (+34% YoY) • Cloud was 89% of HDD revenue The number we’re watching for Wednesday's call is simple: Does nearline HDD ship >240 exabytes in Q4? If it does, it suggests hyperscaler demand is still outrunning supply, tightening allocation into 2027. That matters beyond Western Digital. It strengthens the case for Seagate and supports hyperscaler storage spending independently of whatever SanDisk reports on NAND margins. Kill conditions are equally clear: • ≤222 exabytes shipped, or • Gross margin <51% Either would weaken the thesis that nearline HDD has become a structural AI bottleneck.
