A lot of people are so afraid of paying taxes that it completely clouds their judgment. Let's use a simplified example based on my recent $NBIS trades with an hypothetical $1,000,000 position to simplify the math. • Average cost: $180 • Trimmed at $270 (reduced from 40% to 15%) By trimming from 40% → 15% at $270: • Realized gain: ~$312,500 • Tax at 30%: ~$93,750 Then I re-entered around $220-$230 (let's call it $225 average).
